Are you looking for farmhouse family room ideas? We want to help give you some inspiration for your family room with images we love.
We want to share some farmhouse family room ideas with you through images of our large, open concept family room. When you think of a family room, you think of the room in the house where everyone comes together. We love the idea of a large open space that fits all your family and friends. No matter where you are, you feel a part of everything going on.
There are a few things that a family room must have. Plenty of seating, tv for entertainment, good lighting, fireplace, and enough space for everyone. When we all get together there are eight adults and seven going on eight children. So, having enough room and seating is a must. Things get loud and exciting with all the kids and let’s be honest,
our son-in-laws are a mess.
When we decorated our family room, we wanted a comfortable and cozy space that would fit us all. We also thought about the kids and wanted things that are kid friendly, but still went with our farmhouse living room style. We hope that these family room images will inspire you and help you while designing your own space.

Family Room Ideas
Seating
When you think family room, you think of an area for your whole family, which means a lot of seating. We fill every area we can with extra seating, while making sure to keep things open and roomy. We also love having a gas fireplace in the center of the room for those cold, winter nights.
When we all come together, we are all sitting around telling stories, watching an OU football game, holidays, or playing games. So, it was so important to me when designing my living area to make sure we had all the room we needed. We have two sofas, oversized chair, recliner, a chair in our entryway, extra ottoman seating, bench, and our dining room chairs a few steps away. So, when we host holidays or I’m just fixing breakfast for my kids and grandkids on a Saturday mornings, we can all comfortably be together.
I love all the natural light coming in from my windows, but for my living room windows I did hang curtains. I didn’t in my entryway window, dining room, or kitchen. They are all connected, but for a cozier feel in the living area I wanted to go ahead and add some there and I love them.

My end tables in my living area are my mother’s so I’m unable to link them, but found some adorable farmhouse end tables from Amazon I’ll share.

Extra Accessories
To keep things homey and cozy, we like to add additional lights. Like a floor lamp and lamps on our end tables. We also love a ladder. They are so easy to use with decor and look so cute!! We switch out our quilt with every holiday and add a cute accessory to hang from the top.
We were able to find the exact ladder and floor lamp, but we weren’t able to link our throw. There are so many cute throws out there to choose from. We love finding our throws at Kirkland’s, Tj Maxx, or Marshall’s.

Personalize Wall Decor
What better wall decor for your family room than pictures of your family? We love personalizing a space and bringing in things that make you smile when you see them. To go with our black frames, we love the idea of this decorative black bench to add a seasonal throw and pillow.
When we walk into our house, I want to see things that have meaning and make me smile. Along with all of my other things, of course. Obviously, not everything I decorate with will have a story, but when I can use things that do, I love to!

Open Layout
Having an open layout is a game changer if you want a large, open space. We love that our entryway is opened up to our living room. Having it all open makes sure that you have plenty of room and more area for seating and decor. Also, you have so much more natural light coming in. We have a big window in our entryway, three windows in our dining, a big window above our kitchen sink and that doesn’t include the windows in our actual family room. We love all the light being able to be brought into each room because it’s truly one big area.
We love these ottomans we found from Walmart. We have used them a few places and they are easily moved around the house. In front of our master bed, or like we have here in our entry underneath our big open window area. Putting a bench in the space would be too big, but these ottomans fit perfectly and it’s also great that they could easily be moved to the living room for extra seating when we all want to get together.

Like we have mentioned if there’s a small pocket to create a cute sitting area, we are going to take it. This is one of my favorite corners in my living room. I love the shiplap wall, lighting, and the chair that I enjoy decorating with different seasonal pillows and throws. Unfortunately, we got it from Target, and they are sold out, but I’ll share some similar options that we also love.
