When designing a bathroom there are some basic must-haves that every bathroom needs. Such as, a vanity, shower, mirrors, faucets, flooring, lights, and freestanding tub. No two bathrooms are alike. Each bathroom has the personal touch of the designer. So, when making your decisions, it is important to find what you like and stay within that wheelhouse.
We want to show you a simple design that hopefully will help you build your list of must-haves and inspire inspiration for your design. When it comes to decorating and designing your home, the most important thing is that you love it and look forward to being there every single day. If your home reflects you and your family, then it will always feel like home.

Modern Bathroom Vanity
Choosing a bathroom vanity is one of the fun things you get to shop for, but before you start shopping you need to finalize your color scheme for your bathroom. Along with the color scheme of the whole room, you’ll need to know if you are wanting a white, natural, or colored vanity. Another option for a vanity to consider, is if you want two separated vanities for his and her, a single vanity with extra counterspace to share, or a double vanity. When shopping, you will quickly realize that the options are endless.
This vanity below we wanted to share with the design we are going for as a reference. We personally love the idea of his and her vanities. We feel as though if you have the room, it’s worth it. You will notice a lot more peace in your home. No more waiting for one another to finish and no more wiping up the toothpaste that your husband leaves behind in the sink. Gotta love them!
This vanity is from Amazon and is absolutely beautiful. Other great places with beautiful vanities are Wayfair, Pottery Barn, Home Depot, and Lowe’s. You have the gold hardware with the fresh clean white finish and countertops. You also have plenty of drawer space and since you won’t be sharing with anyone, it’s more than enough. This vanity is also perfect for a guest bathroom.
Sink Faucet
Depending on what color scheme you have chosen to go with will determine the best option for your hardware. The most popular hardware in a modern farmhouse home would be black, but we have continued to go with our design and go with a gold faucet. No matter what finish you prefer it’s just important to use it consistently all throughout your bathroom.
So, whether you have chosen nickel, gold, or black just be sure that it flows throughout your whole design. This sink faucet is from Amazon, but other great options to shop for faucets would be Home Depot and Lowe’s.
Decorative Mirrors
Another fun thing to shop for is mirrors. They are going to be covering a large size of your wall, so it’s good to pick something with some character. Depending on what vanity you have chosen for your bathroom will determine the size and the number of mirrors you need. For a double vanity or his and her vanities you will want two mirrors. One over each sink. For a single vanity you will only need one size mirror, but depending on the size of the vanity will determine the size of the mirror you will need. If it’s a single vanity with a lot of counter space, you can go for a larger mirror but if it’s a small size vanity you won’t want anything bigger than the space your vanity provides.
These mirrors are from Amazon. Other places we love to shop mirrors from are Kirkland’s, Marshall’s, Tj Maxx, Hobby Lobby, and Target. These mirrors are beautiful and have an elegance to them. They work beautifully with the gold hardware and faucets.
Lights
You have several different options when it comes to bathroom lights. You have the option of sconces, flush mount, can lighting, and chandeliers. When shopping for lights the option of light you choose will be best determined by the vanity you have chosen and the space you have available. A rule to help you go by would be to put a light above each sink in your bathroom. So, if you have a double vanity then you can put a light above both sinks. If you have a single vanity, you can do sconces on each side or one above the mirror.
We have mentioned before that we love the idea of his and her vanities, so we have continued with that theme and showing you an option for a single vanity. We love the look of scones. They are classic and beautiful. We found these from Amazon, but there are several places to shop for lights. You can also find them at Target, Amazon, Home Depot, and Lowe’s.
Soaking Tub
This may not be a must for everyone, but we love the idea of a soaking tub in a farmhouse bathroom. For many it is a must!! We love the addition it is to a bathroom. It’s just a big bonus and gives you the opportunity to make a beautiful, luxurious space that brings a calming feeling. You may not have the time for a spa day, so bring the spa to you.
This soaking tub we found on Amazon and after shopping for soaking tubs getting ready for a bathroom remodel, we have found that Amazon has some of the very best options and prices we have seen.
Flooring
Choosing your bathroom floor is a huge decision. You have the option of tile or continuing your wood flooring throughout your bathroom if you choose to do so. When choosing your bathroom floor, the tile and wood floor options are endless, literally. So many different colors and patterns. For a bathroom floor we have had wood flooring continued from our bedroom into our bath, we have had large size tiles, and next we are going to go with something similar to this. When choosing a tile floor, you also have all the grout options. We have realized we may love the lighter grouts, but a darker grout is just so much easier to keep looking clean.
This tile floor we have chosen is a gorgeous marble hexagon tile. We love the medium size that gives you some busyness, but not too much that you feel overwhelmed. We also love it with the light and dark grout. This flooring is from Home Depot and besides a local floor shop, that is where we have bought our floors in the past.
Custom Shower
There’s nothing like a large size custom shower for your master bathroom. It is a must!! We love the idea of having a contrast in the shower. A different flooring and backsplash of the shower shelve combined with a different wall tile. For a floor shower we love the idea of a smaller design.
We have chosen this small hexagon floor tile too, but paired with a larger size wall tile. It’s busy, which helps with cleanliness and you can put a light or dark grout with it. Both being beautiful options!
Shower Tile
This tile has become more and more popular here recently and we have seen some pictures of some bathrooms with this combination and love it!! It comes in a lot of different colors and gives you a little bit of a European and modern feel to your design. There are so many different tile options when it comes to your farmhouse shower. You have large size tiles, different design tiles, colors, grouts, and more. The options are truly endless. You will also want to go with the same color faucet in your shower as you have you sink faucets and bathtub faucet.
We love the color and texture that this tile brings to a shower. It’s beautiful and gives off a little bit of shine to your bathroom. This tile is another from Home Depot.
