French Country Kitchen
1. Wooden Island
When you see French Country inspired kitchens you see a lot of distressed wood, and if modern French Country, then you may not see distressed wood, but you still do see a lot of wooden features. Your kitchen island is in the very center of your kitchen and is the first thing that your eyes see when you walk in. With most new home builds, you get your cabinets and island custom built, but if you aren’t starting from scratch then adding a wooden island would be an easy thing to do.
You can find small wooden islands from a number of stores, Home Depot, Lowes, Wayfair, Pottery Barn, and more. We’ll show you a couple of options we found. When you are shopping for your kitchen island you will want to measure your kitchen to see what size would fit best in your kitchen. We have a big size kitchen, having a big family we use up every square inch. But if you do have a smaller kitchen then you will still be able to find a lot of options as well.

This kitchen island option is an absolute beauty. This same island is from the picture at the top of the page and is from Pottery Barn. It’s a good medium size, has open shelves, drawers, and a place for some chairs. I’m telling you, if you don’t have a kitchen island then adding one will completely change the look of your kitchen.
Also, if you do have an island, but it doesn’t fit the theme of French Country farmhouse then sanding and refinishing it or painting your island a soft color with new hardware will change the game of things. We just recently repainted our kitchen cabinets and adding new hardware and it doesn’t even look like the same kitchen.

Here is another kitchen island option. You have your wooden accents and the open shelving. It also is a smaller size and a more conservative price.

Here is another island option we wanted to show you so you can see the comparisons. They all look different from one another, but could all easily work into your French Country farmhouse. Depending on your color scheme you are wanting and the price range, these three options show you three different styles.
2. Island Lighting
New lighting for your farmhouse kitchen is a game changer! Your lighting in your home says a lot about your style of your home. Having lighting that works with the style of your farmhouse adds so much charm and warmth to your home.
When you are styling your French Country kitchen an easy place to add gold or linen to your kitchen would be in your light fixtures. Which would add charm, warmth, and a coziness to your kitchen. We have a couple of options to show you.

This is a stunning modern, French Country light fixture that would go perfectly over a medium to large size kitchen island. The gold iron with the linen cover pieces gives a beautiful combination. We absolutely love this light fixture!

We also love the idea of double pendants above the kitchen island. These lantern pendants are a modern twist on the traditional lantern style. We love the added character these lanterns will bring into a French country farmhouse kitchen.
3. Dining Set
Adding a wooden or upholstered dining set to your kitchen will undoubtedly completely change the feel of your space. Picking the right wooden finish for your farmhouse kitchen can bring in the French Country feel immediately to your kitchen.
Maybe you don’t want to buy a new dining set right now, you could also just swap out your dining chairs to bring in a whole new look. Upholstered chairs are a perfect French country touch.
We are going to show you a couple of different looks from Wayfair that bring a French country feel.

We love this wood table with these armed upholstered chairs and bench. This is a gorgeous table and chairs that is full of character, warmth, and charm. The table is solid wood and the tufted chairs and bench bring a cozy elegance to the room.

Here is another gorgeous French Country dining set. The trestle base, wooden chairs, all of it is so elegant. We love the natural inspired look with the detailed table and chairs. Having a French country inspired table and chairs will immediately add so much personality and style to your kitchen area.
4. Gold Hardware
In almost all French Country Farmhouse kitchens you will see a lot of gold and/or copper tones. A great way to add some more to your kitchen besides through your light fixtures would be gold hardware and a sink faucet. It immediately adds in warmth and sophistication. We are going to show you a traditional option of a gold sink faucet and a modern style gold faucet.

This is a beautiful modern style sink faucet that immediately catches your eye when you see it. We love the added touches of gold to a French Country kitchen, and this is definitely an easy swap out to add some extra flare.

The perfect classic farmhouse touch! This sink faucet is absolutely charming and classic. You will keep the traditional French country style with this piece while adding character to your kitchen. Switching out a new sink faucet is an easy way to change the look of your kitchen on a budget.

If your cabinets will allow it, you can just add some new golden hardware. If they don’t, you may have to paint your cabinets, but you can completely change your kitchen by doing one or both. We love golden hardware in a French Country farmhouse. It is so inviting and beautiful.
5. Wood Beams
Adding wood beams to your farmhouse kitchen will add so much to your kitchen. We love the character and finish that it gives to a farmhouse kitchen. It amazes us how much it adds to a space. It may sound intimidating to do, but I’m telling you if we can, you can.

The added wooden beams come in different sizes and makes it easy to install them. You will love the texture and coziness it brings to your kitchen. This may be the most work out of the five ideas for your farmhouse kitchen, but it’s doable and one of our absolute favorite things to add to a space.
